Helena the capital, 5th most populated city and county seat of Lewis & Clark County , a fertile region surrounded by hills and high peaks. During the gold rush in Montana at the end of the 19th century it was a mining town ; later in the 19th century it became one of the wealthiest locations in the United States.
In downtown the State Capital stands on a 10-acre slope overlooking the Pear Valley and as in any American state capital is the landmark building. Built in neoclassical style with sandstone and granite, it has an equestrian statue in front of the entrance and another nicknamed “Lady Liberty” stands on top of the brass dome inside which you can admire paintings depicting characters from the past.
