Copenhagen’s public transport includes. Metro, trains, buses. And water buses and considered one of the best in the world. If you want to see the sights of Copenhagen and its surroundings. Then public transport is the best choice. With one ticket you can use any type of transport. In the city center, public transport runs around the clock. And wherever you are, there will be a bus stop nearby. If you travel short distances, a bicycle will help you save on transport. It can rent. In some places in the city. Bicycles can used free of charge with a 20 DKK deposit. After returning the bike, the deposit returned.
Before the trip, every tourist should know that the city divided. Into tariff zones. And the fare depends on the number of zones that you cross during the trip. A city map with tariff zones located at every public transport stop. There is a mark showing your location “You are here”.
Copenhagen Public Transport Tickets, Zones, and Cost
1-Ticket for one trip.

2-The travel City Pass.
Designed for an unlimited number of trips. Within the zones of your choice for 24, 48, 72, 96, and 120 hours. You can buy the pass at the DBS office at the airport. At Central Station and in 7-Eleven stores. (you can find a list of points of sale on the official website). Or online on the official public transport website. When buying online. You will receive an SMS with the City Pass code on your phone. Thus, you will receive an electronic ticket.
The City Pass can be of 2 types:
City Pass Small. Covers the airport area and city center i.e. you can travel by bus, metro, and train in zones 1, 2, 3, and 4. The cost of City Pass Small adult/child for 24 hours – 80/40 DKK, 48 hours – 150/75 DKK, 72 hours – 200/100 DKK, 96 hours – 250/125 DKK, 120 hours – 300/150 DKK.
City Pass Large. Covers Greater Copenhagen. And you are free to travel by bus, metro, and train in zones 1 – 99. City Pass Large adult/child for 24 hours – 160/80 DKK, 48 hours – 3000/150 DKK, 72 hours – 400/200 DKK, 96 hours – 500/250 DKK, 120 hours – 600/300 DKK.
3. Rejsekort Card
Suitable for all types of transport. The cost of the card is 80 DKK. Plus the minimum amount of money to deposited on the card. From 60 to 100 DKK. You can buy the card at the airport at the DBS office. At Grand Central Station and at 7-Eleven stores. There you can hand it over upon departure and return the deposit. At the entrance to the transport. You need to attach the card to the machine. And make a Check-in at the exit Check-out. If you have not finished the trip and you have to change trains. Then Check-in must do at the entrance to each type of transport. And Check-out only once, when your trip is over. The cost of the trip deducted from the card. And the remaining money on your card appears on the screen.
4- Copenhagen Card
Most beneficial for active tourists and allows:
- Unlimited use of all types of public transport. (bus, metro, train) within Greater Copenhagen (zones 1 – 99), incl. any transport to/from the airport;
- Free admission to 87 interesting places for tourists. (museums, castles) no more than once, you will need to pay for a second visit;
- The card offers many discounts on restaurants, cafes, and excursions;
- Cards have a different duration – 24, 48, 72, and 120 hours. Children (no more than 2) under the age of 10 can travel with adults for free. For children from 10 to 15 years old, children’s cards purchased;
- The cost of the card for an adult/children for 24 hours – €54/26; for 48 hours – €80/40. 72 hours – €99/49; for 120 hours – €133/67;
- Along with the Card. You will receive a brochure listing the main attractions of Copenhagen. It is worth visiting.
- You can buy the card at Terminal 3 of the airport. Central Station, 7-Eleven stores, tourist information centers, hotels. And numerous points of sale.
5-Park & Ride ticket
Suitable for those traveling by car. This ticket combines parking. And public transport. You can leave your car in the parking lot. (by the metro, bus stop, S-tog station). And continue your journey by public transport. A ticket can bought for any number of days. And includes an unlimited number of trips by metro, train. And bus in zones 1-4. The ticket price is from 55 DKK per day. The ticket is valid until 24:00. Children under 12 years old can travel with an adult for free.
Copenhagen Metro
Copenhagen metro automated. And works without a driver. The platforms separated from the arriving train. By a glass wall with sliding doors. That open at the same time as the train doors.
The metro operates around the clock. Trains arrive at intervals of 2-4 minutes during rush hour. And 3-6 minutes during the rest of the hours. At night, from 00:00 to 05:00, the interval is 15-20 minutes. On the metro map, next to the station name. There is a number that indicates how many minutes it takes. Copenhagen Buses

In inner Copenhagen. There are urban yellow-red A-buses and blue C-buses. They work from 05:00 to 01:00. The interval of traffic is 3-7 minutes during rush hour. And 10 minutes before and after rush hour. There are blue and yellow S-buses. It makes fewer stops and can reach faster. They run around the city and suburbs from 06:00 to 01:00. The yellow N-buses are night buses. That run at night from 01:00 to 05:00. At intervals of 15 – 20 minutes. Night buses marked with gray icons at information desks at stops.
Copenhagen Harbour Buses
Havnebussen water (port) buses run in Copenhagen. They integrated into Copenhagen’s public transport system. And have the same payment system. As buses, metro and trains. These are yellow boats that run along the harbor on three routes
- Water Bus 991. Direction: Teglholmen (South) – Refshaleøen (North). Opening hours: 06:25 – 20:25
- Water Bus 992. Direction: Refshaleøen (north) – Teglholmen (south). Opening hours: 06:45 – 21:25
- Water Bus 993. Runs between Copenhagen Opera House and Nyhavn on performance days. Opening hours: 60 – 90 minutes before the start of the opera. Until the last passenger after the end of the performance. The interval of movement is 40 minutes. The schedule is on the DOT website.
Copenhagen Trains
Several types of trains run in Copenhagen:
Suburban trains S- tog.
(Marked with the letter S in a red hexagon in the diagrams). Form a single network with the metro. But travel outside the city much further. So they are convenient to get from Copenhagen city center to the suburbs. S-tog trains red. They used for both urban and suburban traffic. And popular among the local population. Regional trains Regionaltog
(Referred to as Retog on maps). Operate in the same zone system as the S-tog within Copenhagen. Outside Copenhagen, stops only at major stations. Their coverage area goes beyond the S-tog network. Long-distance trains
InterCity (IC), InterCityLyn (Lyn), EuroCity (EC). They leave from Copenhagen Central Station to various cities in Denmark. Making stops only at major stations. The trains have increased comfort, increased speed and ultra-modern design.

Local Lokaltog trains
