Direction of the Nile River

  • The flow of the Nile River from Jinja in Uganda begins on the shores of Lake Victoria.
  • It then flows northwards, through Ripon Falls to reach Lake Kyoga.
  • It then heads towards the west side, employing into Lake Albert.
  • This leads to the mixing of the Nile, with the water of the lake, to form the so-called Nile Albert,
    which flows in a northerly direction to South Sudan, and from there to Juba, and is called the Mountain River.
  • The Ring area is the entrance to the White Nile to Sudan, from where it heads to the Sudanese capital Khartoum,
    where both the White Nile and the Blue Nile flowing from Ethiopia meet.
  • The White and Blue Nile then run together, through Sudan and Egypt until it reaches Cairo.
  • There the Nile is divided into two branches, the Damietta branch and the Rashid branch, among which is the Nile Delta.
  • The Mediterranean Sea is the final estuary of the Nile.
