Another great option for swimming and sunbathing is Silver Bay Public Beach, also located on Lake Superior’s North Shore. This beach features a large sandy shoreline, as well as a playground and picnic areas. For those looking for a more secluded spot to enjoy the lake, Tettegouche State Park Beach is an excellent choice. This remote beach can only be accessed by hiking or canoeing, but it’s well worth the effort to get there.
If you’re looking to escape the crowds and enjoy some time on a less crowded beach, head to Stoney Point State Park Beach on Lac qui Parle Lake. This secluded spot is great for fishing, birdwatching, and simply enjoying nature. Another good option for avoiding crowds is Big Island State Park Beach on Rainy Lake. This island beach can only be reached by boat, but it’s a popular spot for camping and picnicking.
Of course, no trip to Minnesota would be complete without spending some time on the Mississippi River. There are several great options for river beaches in Minnesota, but one of our favorites is Itasca State Park Beach. This park is home to numerous hiking trails and lakeside camping sites, as well as an extensive network of boardwalks that wind through wetlands and forested areas. The highlight of the park though is undoubtedly its massive red pines – some of which are over 400 years old!
