The Ladoga Bridge is thrown across the Neva and is a drawbridge. It is located a few kilometers from the source of the Neva, near the Murmansk highway and the village of Maryino. The bridge was fully commissioned in 1983.

The Ladoga Bridge across the Neva was built in socialist times, therefore it does not represent any particular artistic value. The structure of the bridge is formed by a nine-span reinforced concrete structure. One of the spans is one-winged and adjustable. The pillars of the Ladoga Bridge are made of reinforced concrete and have granite cladding.

The building is a kind of continuation of the Museum “Breaking the Siege of Leningrad” and is considered a monument, as it was built on the site of events that took place during the Great Patriotic War. There is a military theme in the design style of the Ladoga Bridge. The lighting masts are made in the form of stylized peaks, and the lanterns are shaped like shell casings.

In 2005, the reconstruction of the bridge was carried out, the main goal of which was to improve the movement of vehicles. The repair was timed to coincide with the 60th anniversary of the Victory in the Second World War and was carried out in a short time. The fact is that through the bridge you can get to the war memorials. Among them are Sinyavinsky heights, Maryino, Nevsky Pyatachok.

In 2012-2013, the bridge was repaired, after which its decoration – lanterns – was removed from it. Later, due to public outcry, new lamps were made, very similar to the old ones.

During the repair process, utility rooms with an automatic control system and monitoring the operation of the mechanisms responsible for opening the bridge were arranged in the support. Also, all hydraulic equipment was completely replaced.

Bridge movement

The transport complex of the Ladoga Bridge includes approaches with barriers, an overpass over the railway tracks on the right-bank side, and a left-bank junction that connects the road routes to the cities of Kirovsk and Shlisselburg and the Kola highway. The bridge has four lanes for car traffic.

The bridge is equipped with a deicing system. A pipeline with a reagent is arranged along the axis of the bridge. The conditions and time of its distribution are determined by a computer program.

What is remarkable about the bridge

Ladoga Bridge was erected in places where bloody battles took place during the war. The left-bank abutment is made in such a way that it looks like a pillbox with an embrasure passage. Next to it you can see the T-34 tank – it stands on a special pedestal. Memorial plaques are installed nearby. Excursions about the blockade of Leningrad are often held here. Subsequently, four more tanks were installed in front of the museum.

A good view of the Oreshek fortress opens from the Ladoga Bridge. In the mounds located to the north of Staraya Ladoga, according to legend, the burial place of Prophetic Oleg is located. And under the river there are secret tunnels leading to the grave of Rurik – it is believed that it is filled with gold.

The layout of the Ladoga Bridge is carried out according to the schedule: on weekdays from 10.00 to 10.45 and from 15.00 to 15.45. There is also a layout from 1.00 to 3.00. Wire times may vary. There is no disclosure on weekends, when the air temperature is over +25 degrees and when the wind speed exceeds fifteen meters per second.

This bridge of St. Petersburg plays an important role in the movement of transport ships going to Lake Ladoga and back. The closest attention is paid to the layout schedule. It is approved at the beginning of the shipping season, and the commanders of all navigation aids in St. Petersburg must comply with it.

The drawbridge is controlled through the fourth pillar, which looks like a large house with various mechanisms. From it you can observe the mesmerizing expanse of the Neva and hear the chirping of swallows. This is the heart of the Ladoga Bridge.
