Pisa airport to the city center

How to get from Pisa airport to the city center?

Pisa International Airport (Aeroporto Internazionale di Pisa) is named after the Italian scientist Galileo Galilei and is located just 5 kilometers from the city center. You can get there by train or taxi.

Special trains run from the airport to the center of Pisa, but you can also use a taxi, which will immediately take you to the hotel.

By train

A journey of only 6 minutes by train from the airport to Pisa Centrale will especially appeal to children, as there are no drivers in modern Pisa-mover shuttles. Trains are fully robotic, with large panoramic windows, run every 15 minutes from 4:30 am to 01:30 am.

Watch the video where I explain and show the process of buying tickets and the trip in detail:

A one-way ticket costs only 5 euros and is bought at a kiosk right at the airport or at a special machine next to the platform – this is the cheapest and easiest way to get to the city center.

By taxi

The cost of a taxi ride from Pisa airport is fixed, but depends on the destination. The fare to Stazione di Pisa Centrale costs 9 euros, and to the Square of Miracles (Piazza del Duomo) – 12 euros.

It is worth considering surcharges on weekends – plus 2.60 euros, for each piece of luggage 0.65 euros.

By car rent

Right at the airport, you can pick up a pre-rented car and go on your own journey through the small, fabulous cities of Italy. For example, a Volkswagen Polo class car will cost you only 230 euros for 10 days, which is much more profitable, faster and more interesting than traveling by public transport between small towns.

To Florence

From Pisa airport to Florence (Firenze) can be reached by direct bus for 14 euros, taxi for 160 euros or trains for 11.30 euros with a transfer to Pisa Centrale. Travel time is about an hour and a half – see detailed instructions.

In Livorno

The port of Livorno, from where cruise liners depart, will also have to be reached with transfers by train and bus. Trenitalia regional trains run from Pisa to Livorno Centrale several times an hour.

Ticket price is only 2.60 euros, travel time is 15 minutes. You can get from the station to the port by city buses of the red LAM ROSSA or the blue LAM BLU line.

A more comfortable way is to book a transfer in advance. The cost of a taxi for 2-4 people will be 86 euros, you will be taken directly to the port to the cruise ship.
